ESG toasts employee engagement success at rail awards

ESG client Nottingham Trams has taken top honours at this year’s Global Light Rail Awards. It triumphed in the Project of the Year under €50m Euros category for its innovative internal communications and employee engagement initiative.

The Nottingham Trams team rolled out ESG’s Employee Engage app to help meet the challenges of a highly dispersed, mobile and largely off-net workforce, dramatically improving their physical and emotional connection to the business and driving up communication, performance, engagement and benefits uptake.

Much of the programme’s success has been attributed to the decision – reached collectively by employees – to create a ‘persona’ for the app, to make it more approachable, to give it a recognisable voice and character that also usefully embodied the company’s corporate values. The resultant app assistant, EmMA, has been integral to the positive adoption rates seen for the app and the measurable improvement in attitudes, operational efficiency and interaction with the rewards gateway.
